Why GSS

Why homeowners and builders choose GSS

01

Your schedule stays on track

We own our forming system, so your pour never waits on a rental yard or another crew’s calendar.

02

One company, footing to roof

Concrete and framing under one contract. No gap between trades, and no arguing over walls that are out of square.

03

Built right, inspected at every stage

Built to your engineered drawings. Footings are inspected before every pour, and underpinning follows the engineer’s sequence.

04

You’re covered on every job

WSIB cleared with $5 million in liability insurance. Certificates on request, before we start.

New home or addition: foundation steps

  1. Drawings and price. You send the drawings. We send a clear, line-by-line price and the dates in writing.
  2. Layout. The footprint is checked against the survey and the drawings before anything is formed.
  3. Footings. Formed and reinforced to the drawings, then inspected by the City before the pour.
  4. Foundation walls. Formed with our own forms, with openings, beam pockets and ledges set before the pour.
  5. Strip and check. Forms come off and the walls are checked for level and square.
  6. Waterproofing and drainage. Waterproofing on the walls and weeping tile at the footing, inspected before backfill.
  7. Slabs. Basement slab and garage slab, with the base, vapour barrier and reinforcing the drawings call for.
  8. Framing. If we’re framing too, it starts on walls we poured and checked.

Underpinning: steps

  1. Engineer’s design. We arrange the engineer, who sets the design and the order the sections are dug.
  2. Building permit. We don’t dig until the City issues it.
  3. Underpinning in sections. The new footings go in one section at a time, in the engineer’s order, so the house is supported throughout.
  4. Inspections and reviews. City inspections and the engineer’s site reviews happen as the permit requires.
  5. New floor. Base, under-slab plumbing and the new basement slab finish the job.
